Just only after a month that I received a phone scam, here's another one we have encountered last night.
A call this time from an Indian accent male person, who again is saying our computer has sent an error to Microsoft. He said he is working for Micro PC Care and they are based in South Carolina, US (contracted by Microsoft for technical support according to him) and that his name is Peter Johnson. So we asked, why is your name like a white guy name but your accent is indian? He did not reply to it and just changed the topic. We also asked for the website. He gave this www.micro-pc-care.com which we searched in Google right away but no scam was recorded. We also asked for phone number and he gave this 18777539167. And yes we also saw that in the website. Now, this time we asked for email address of his company and he gave us this richardmason200@yahoo.com. Ooops! wrong answer. (Now we could tell he is using the legit Micro PC Care company and he made up the name PETER JOHNSON for their scam which is not even the same name in the yahoo email that he gave.) How could a company like them be hired by Microsoft and have a yahoo email address????? They should have their own as they have their own website. And so he gave us another website www.ammyy.com (WARNING! DO NOT GO TO THIS WEBSITE). And I immediately googled AMMYY scam and BINGO! Yes it is a scam since 2010. Straightforward, we said to him this is a scam. We even read to him a post in Microsoft blogsite where there was also an indian accent guy who let's this person run an ammyy sort of a program in her computer and that they have asked for $50. So I asked the guy while laughing, "Do you want money from us?" Yes or No .... I asked this three times laughing ... he is saying there will be a technical guy that will contact us again blah blah blah ... so finally I said "You are not thinking, Microsoft will not spend money to call people because there was an error in their computer. Again, do you want our money from us?" and he HANG UP which is what I am expecting for him to do.
The conversation went on and on until we cracked what the scam really is ... AMMYY scam ... What he did not know is that he cannot fool us as we have an IT background.
I actually want to contact Microsoft and Micro PC Care as these people are using their company to scam people. They should warn people about this in their website as a lot have been victims and will become a victim.
Hi there! Welcome to my newly found hobby. I am currently living in New Zealand. I recently quit my programming job to be a full-time mum and now I am a part-time blogger. Feel free to leave your comments.

Beware of this Phone Scam - Windows Technical Support
I received a phone call from a lady who sounded like Asian with a high pitch tone and letting me know that she is from a technical support of some sort. She said she was calling because of an error sent by my computer. I asked from what company was the call coming from. She mentioned about Windows Technical Support and there was a bit of delay in her reply so I have an impression that it was an international call. So because I have an IT background I immediately asked for my IP address that was registered at their end. She said why would she give me the IP address and said she is calling due to error sent to them. I know it is a scam so I am somewhat getting annoyed by her. So I asked her if she is sure, in a very hard tone. I asked her twice. She again told me about the problem our computer encountered. So I said to her, "Look, we don't have a problem in our computer. You are just calling me telling me I have a problem but we don't." Then she hang up while I was still talking.
So just be careful with this kind of scam. First of all, I don't think Microsoft will spend money calling everyone who sends them an error. Also, how would they know my home phone number if my computer sent them the error. I mean, they would know the IP address but not my phone, right? Next thing you know, they will ask for personal details and then your credit card details. So just be aware of this pitfall.
